Who knew that’s how to win a bet

What a way to win a bet: When Uruguyan striker Luis Suarez apparently bit Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini, a man living more than 5300 miles was awoken from a deep sleep. The man named Thomas Syverson, a Norwegian living in Trondheim, the country’s third largest city. Syverson saw that Betsson, an online gambling site based in Malta was offering 175-1 odds that Suarez who had bitten other players before would bite someone during the world Cup and on a hunch placed the equivalent of $5.25(3.85 euros) on the first day of action in Brazil. When Suarez took the apparent bite in the 79th minute, Syverson said he was awoken by a friend who texted him what has just happened. Sure enough, he checked and the equivalent of $916(673 euros) was deposited into his account for winning the bet. Andreas Bardum, sportsbook manager for the gambling site Betsson, where Syverson placed the bet, said 167 gamblers placed bets on the prop. The biggest winner he said was also a Norwegian who won $3300 but he cited that the company policy is not to disclose any of the names of its bettors. The VAMPIRE bite has won this much for the Norwegians. HAHAHAHAHA

Nigeria has at long last won a game in the World cup finals after failing to do so since 1998. Nigeria beat Bosnia 1-0 to send the Eastern Europeans out of the tourney. A Peter Odemwingie first half strike was all enough to do the damage. Nigeria faces Argentina in the last group game knowing avoiding a defeat or Iran not winning against Bosnia by at least a 2 goal margin will send Stephen Keshie men to the Round of 16 for the first time since 1998.

World Cup 2014 ( 1 Day)

This yr saw Bosnia and Herzegovina being the sole debutant as it was with Slovakia in 2010. The edition to produce more debutants was Germany 2006 which produced 8 debutants including Brazil hopefuls Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire.

BRAZIL 2014 – 2 DAYS

2 days to go. 2 is a significant number in the history of the Mundial as only two men has won the World Cup both as a player and coach. Mario Zagallo and Franck Beckenbauer are the two individuals to achieve that feat. Mario won the Mundial two times as a player in 1958 and 1962 with Brazil and led his country to the trophy in Mexico 1970. Beckenbauer won the trophy as a player in 1974 and led his origin to the trophy at Italy 1990 despite being a losing finalist in 1966 and 1986 as a player and coach respectively.

BRAZIL 2014 – 6 DAYS

6 days to go. 6 days to the greatest tournament in the world, FIFA WORLD CUP, BRAZIL 2014. 6 is a significant number in the tournaments history as 6 out of the 19 editions to date have been won by the host nation. After the first two, Uruguay 1930 and Italy 1934 both won by the hosts, the host had to wait for 32 years before they could lift the trophy again with England the nation to oblige in 1966. Following two wins by the host in 1974(Germany) and 1978(Argentina), there was another 20 year break before France became the sixth and to date, last home favourite to prevail. THE BIG QUESTION IS “WILL 6 BECOME 7 AT BRAZIL, 2014”.

World cup 2014 ( 7 days )

The FIFA WORLD CUP fever is drawing closer. 7 days more to Brazil, 2014. 7 is a unique number in the history of the World Cup as it represents the number of times two familiar foes have played each other.
Brazil- Sweden and Germany- Yugoslavia/Serbia are the most played fixtures in the World Cup having been contested 7 times.
Sadly, with the Swedes and Serbians both failing to qualify, there wont be no 8th meeting for either of the familiar rival in Brazil.
In the World Cup Trivia, 7 could also stand for the number of minutes required to score the tournament’s fastest hattrick with Hungary Laszlo Kiss the man responsible in his team record breaking 10-1 victory over El Salvador in 1982. Continue reading

The 2013/2014 EPL

What a joy in the Blue part of Manchester as Manchester City won their second Premier League title in three seasons. As the EPL has always gone down to the wire to decide the winner, Manchester City made comfort of themselves as they won 2-0 to move two points ahead of second place Liverpool who came from a goal down to record a 2-1 win over Newcastle. A goal in each half by Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany were enough to clinch the title for City and their delighted manager, Manuel Pellegrini. As referee Martin Artkinson blew his whistle for full time, it was all joy as the Citizens fans came onto the pitch to celebrate with the players and staff. The joy was multiplied as Premier League Chairman, Richard Scudamore handed over the trophy to Manchester City skipper, Vincent Kompany after the players have received their league medal. The victory at the Etihad does not mean that was the only game this weekend. Nine other EPL matches went on at the same time City were clinching the 2013/2014 league title. At the Hawthorns, WestBromich Albion lost 2-1 to Stoke City but still kept their premiership status next season. Goals from Charlie Adam and an own goal by Gary Maculey gave Stoke the win despite a consolation from Stephane Sessegnon. In the other games, Fulham drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace with Cauley Woodrow and Chris David netting for Fulham and Dwight Gayle after netting a brace against Liverpool on Monday continued with a brace against Fulham. Swansea saw off Sunderland 3-1 at the Stadium of Light. Fabio Borini netted for the host but goals from Nathan Dyer, Marvin Emnes and Wilfried Bony sent Swansea to 12th on the log. At the KC stadium, Hull city succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton. James Maccarthy and Romelu Lukaku did the damage for the Toffees. Also, Aston Villa was hammered by Tottenham Hotspurs by 3-0 with Paulinho, Emmanuel Adebayor and an own goal by Nathan Baker doing the hammering. Manchester United hopes of a place in the Europa League were vanished as they drew 1-1 with Southampton at the St. Mary’s. A Rickie Lambert first half goal was cancelled out by a Juan Mata clinical executed free kick. In the other three games, Norwich City joined Cardiff City and Fulham as relegated clubs as they lost 2-0 to Arsenal. Goals by Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson sent Norwich City to the drop. Chelsea came from a goal down to beat relegated bound Cardiff City 2-1. A powerful deflected strike by Craig Bellamy was cancelled out by Andre Schurrle after just a minute of entering the pitch and a goal by Fernando Torres in the space of three minutes to hold the grip of third place finish. In the last game, Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Newcastle United 2-1 to stay second. A first half own goal by Martin Skrtel was overturned by goals from Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge in three minutes all coming from free kicks effected by Steven Gerrard. Congratulations to the Blue part of Manchester for winning the title. And to the relegated clubs, better luck next time.

The chapter of the EPL 2013/2014 closes.
