The world’s football governing body says the Egyptian capital remains the venue for the return leg play-off between the Pharaohs and the Black Stars on November 19

Ghana will have to travel to trouble spot Cairo for the second-leg World Cup play-off against Egypt on November 19, Fifa has confirmed.

The west African side has raised concern about security situation in the Egyptian capital, but the world football governing body feels otherwise in a communication to the Ghana FA on Wednesday.

According to Fifa, the Egypt FA has assured that it will provide the maximum security to their visitors coupled with the fact that Caf has allowed Al Ahly to play their Champions League match in Cairo.

The return leg is scheduled for the Air Defence Stadium in November after Ghana thrashed the seven-time African champions 6-1 in the first leg in Kumasi on October 15.

We all hope and pray for peace before and after the game, and for all of Egypt.

International Internet Day

images (1)

International Internet Day is celebrated worldwide, every year on 29th of October. Since the year 2005 the International Internet Day has been famously celebrated to commemorate a momentous day in the history of telecommunications and technology. This was the event of the sending of the first message, first electronic message which was transferred from one computer to another in 1969. This was situated in California, in the USA. Today the International Internet Day is also an on-line project germinating from the society, of the society and for the society. The International Internet Day project is open to everyone and anyone just as access to the internet is open and free for everyone. The International Internet Day thus celebrates this grand democratic fervor which in essential is linked to this idea of liberation, where everyone is afforded an equal opportunity and an equal advantage to share of services, which connect the world to each other.

Gleaning back at the history of the event would inform us that the journey to this era of easy communication wasn’t exactly as simple as surfing up information on Google. For starters it the present scenario has been preceded by years of attempts including failed attempts to render digital data visible to everyone, instead of using teleprinters and other devices. At the time when history was being made, Internet was known as ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). This was the year of 1969 when Charley Kline, a student programmer at the UCLA transmitted the first ever message on 29th of October in 1969. This event was to follow only few months after the first man landed on the moon. Great things were happening in the world, and this was one of it. Charley Kline, working under the supervision of Professor Leonard Kleinrock, transmitted a message from the computer housed at the UCLA to a computer positioned at the Stanford Research Institute’s computer. The two computers, one at the UCLA was the SDS Sigma 7 Host computer and the receiver was the SDS 940 Host at the Stanford Research Institute. Interestingly enough the message was a text message comprising the word ‘login’. But as it would transpire only the letter L and O could be transmitted across, because following the initial transmission the system collapsed and the transmission crashed.

The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching, using standard IP (Internet Protocol). Now Internet has become one of the most important part of our life. Most of us cannot think of spending one day without internet. Internet has made our lives much easy.

so what did you do on International Internet Day

In Ghana, the management of various ISPs joins the working stuff to communicate with their customers, to know how comfortable their service is to them

I believe Busy Internet in Ghana demonstrated that!!

Children of the modern era are also not left out of this day celebration, because the youth spend most of their time surfing the net.

Senegal, Sierra Leone and Gabon will take part in the tournament as guests.

The countries will be drawn into two groups with the winners of the group progressing to the final while the second placed team in each group will vie for third position.

The competition starts from 21st November, 2013 and will end on 28th November, 2013.

A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT WAFU

The WAFU Nations Cup (often abbreviated as the WAFU Cup) is an association football competition that is contested by representative teams of theWest African Football Union.

A trophy was commissioned by President Gnassingbé Eyadéma of Togo in 1974 with a view to establishing a regional competition similar to the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.[1] The maiden event was hosted in Abidjan and the hosts Ivory Coast won the tournament.

The West African Nations Cup (Zone 3) commenced in 1982 on an annual basis (not in 1985), and was played until 1987. Meanwhile, in 1983ECOWAS (French:CEDEAO) create another tournament, the CEDEAO Cup (Zone 3) and it was played on a bi-annual basis until 1991.

Zone 2 also had their own tournament created, the Amílcar Cabral Cup, named after the liberator of Guinea-Bissau, Amílcar Cabral.

The West African Nations Cup returned in 2002 as the WAFU Nations Cup, however, officially it was not considered simply as a continuation of the old tournament, and therefore it is a new tournament. The 2002 edition was short-lived after violence broke out in Ivory Coast. Two games of the tournament had been played when it was cancelled. Finally, after an eight-year wait, the tournament returned in April 2010 which Nigeria’s Ogun State hosted and the host nation won.

Microsoft Launches Windows 8.1: All the Details

Almost a year after the release of Windows 8, Microsoft today released the first major upgrade to its operating system, Windows 8.1.

Starting today, those with Windows 8 machines can upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free via the Windows Store. The update hit at 7 a.m. ET this morning, and will be rolling out over the next 24 hours.

Those on Windows 7, Vista, or XP can visit the Windows upgrade page, which will detect whether or not your PC can handle Windows 8.1. On my PC running Windows 7 Professional service pack 1, I got a note that said “Windows 8.1 is coming soon,” so it appears the rollout is still in the works.
Starting on Friday, meanwhile, Microsoft stores will stock the packaged DVD version of Windows 8.1, while new PCs and tablets running Windows 8.1 will hit the market. This week alone, Lenovo introduced an 8-inch version of its Miix tablet, while Acer debuted its 8-inch Iconia W4 tablet, both of which sport Windows 8.1.

Photo Tour: Inside Facebook’s New High-Tech Cold Storage Data Center

source : http://readwrite.com/2013/10/16/facebook-prineville-cold-storage-photos#awesm=~oksTEuMAimIyeu

Facebook (arguably) owns more data than God.

But how to store a cache of user data collected at the scale of omniscience? If you’re Facebook, just build another custom-crafted server storage locker roughly the size of the USS Abraham Lincoln on top of a breezy plateau in the Oregon high desert. The company’s newest Prinveville, Oregon data center employs an ultra-green “cold storage” plan designed from the ground up to meet its unique—and uniquely huge—needs.

In the collaborative, open spirit of its Open Compute Project, a server hardware hacking collaborative that grew out of the company in 2011, Facebook invited us to tour its new cold storage data complex, which just blinked live last week. Yes, your old, seldom-accessed Facebook photos live there and no, we didn’t look at them. But we did get to see plenty else.

A solar array takes advantage of Prinveville’s 300 days of sunshine per year just beyond the gates.

The cold storage racks are few and far between now, but Facebook expects to fill a cavernous hall with them by 2017.
